At Least 43 Kidnapped in Early Morning Attack in Zamfara State
In a distressing incident, at least 43 individuals were reportedly abducted by armed assailants in Kakidawa, located in the Gidan Goga district of Maradun Local Government Area, Zamfara State. Eyewitnesses revealed that the attack occurred during the early hours of Sunday, around 2 a.m., when a group of heavily armed men invaded the village, unleashing a hail of gunfire.
The sudden onslaught caused panic among residents, prompting many to flee into nearby bushes for safety. Meanwhile, the kidnappers systematically searched through homes, taking women and children who were unable to escape the chaos.
Local community leaders conveyed that, as of now, the armed group has not reached out to the families of the victims to demand ransom, raising further concerns about the situation.
When approached for comments, Yazid Abubakar, the police spokesperson for Zamfara State, stated that he had not received any updates regarding the incident.
This kidnapping incident adds to the growing concern over the increasing prevalence of kidnapping-for-ransom in Nigeria’s northern regions, where insecurity continues to pose significant challenges for communities.
