Kano State Governor’s Media Director Reveals Attempts to Evade Police Arrest
Sanusi Bature, the Director General of Media and Communication for Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Yusuf, announced on Saturday that he has taken measures to avoid arrest by police authorities. Bature shared his experience while speaking at the PR Nigeria Young Communication Fellowship in Kano, explaining that he sought refuge in the Kano State Government House for five consecutive days to evade apprehension.
He claimed that around six days prior, at least 40 officers from the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Team were dispatched to Kano with the specific aim of arresting him, prompting his decision to stay within the safety of the Government House. Bature highlighted the constitutional immunity that protects individuals on government premises from arrest without the governor’s explicit consent.
In his address, Bature mentioned he had obtained a court order prohibiting his arrest, which he believed contributed to law enforcement’s awareness of his situation. He stated it was imperative for him to participate in the event despite the looming threat of arrest.
“I felt it essential to attend this occasion regardless of the possibility of arrest,” Bature said. He noted three key reasons for his appearance: the importance of the event, the court order that had not yet reached the police but had circulated widely, and his belief that he was adequately prepared to handle any attempted arrest.
Bature concluded his remarks by emphasizing the significance of mentorship and the various benefits it provides in professional development. Die
