Anambra, Nigeria – A late-night fire on Saturday destroyed goods and properties valued at several millions of naira in a warehouse located at Tabansi Estate, Limca Road, opposite Crunches, Nkpor, in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The inferno caused widespread panic among residents of the area, who rushed to salvage their belongings for fear that the fire might spread to nearby buildings.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire originated from a section of the warehouse, with thick flames engulfing the structure before firefighters from the Anambra State Fire Service arrived at the scene to contain the blaze.
One resident, who identified himself as Okey, said, “The cause of the fire is still unknown, but we suspect it might have been triggered by excessive heat due to the extremely hot weather. We noticed thick smoke coming from a corner of the building, and within minutes, the fire spread rapidly.”
The firefighters reportedly battled for hours to put out the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to neighboring structures. However, the fire reignited hours later, necessitating the redeployment of firefighting crews to the scene.
Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Fire Chief, Chukwudi Chiketa, said his team responded promptly after receiving a distress call.
