Anambra, Nigeria – Tragedy struck the Okija community in Anambra State on Saturday morning as a stampede during a rice distribution event reportedly claimed multiple lives, with women being the majority of the victims.
Eyewitness accounts and videos circulating on social media reveal harrowing scenes of lifeless bodies strewn on the ground following the incident. Several injured individuals have reportedly been transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The unfortunate event marks the second rice distribution-related tragedy in Nigeria this year. In March, students of Nasarawa State University in Keffi lost their lives in a similar stampede during a rice distribution program organized by the state government.
This latest incident comes just days after over 35 people, mostly children, were killed in a stampede during a carnival in Ibadan, Oyo State.
