Man Allegedly Kills Wife Over Yam Dispute in Ebonyi

Reacting to the incident, the Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, condemned the act and confirmed that the suspect had been apprehended.

Abakaliki, Nigeria – A 40-year-old man, Joshua Nwafor, has been accused of killing his wife, Charity Nwafor, during a domestic dispute over a tuber of yam in Nsokkara, Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The couple, who had been married for 17 years and shared children, reportedly had an argument in their home over how the yam should be prepared. According to eyewitness accounts, Joshua brought out the yam to cook for the family, but Charity insisted on roasting it instead. She went ahead to roast the yam, sparking an altercation.

The disagreement reportedly escalated when Joshua dragged Charity into a room, locked the door, and beat her severely, leading to her death.

An eyewitness urged couples to seek peaceful solutions during disputes and advised individuals in abusive marriages to leave, regardless of societal pressures, to avoid such tragic outcomes.

Reacting to the incident, the Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, condemned the act and confirmed that the suspect had been apprehended. He assured the public that a thorough investigation was underway and that Joshua Nwafor would face justice.

The tragic incident has sparked conversations about domestic violence and the need for proactive measures to address the issue in society.
