Awka, Nigeria – Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, has annulled the purported election of a traditional ruler for the Oba community in Idemili South Local Government Area, declaring the process illegal.

In a statement issued by the state’s Commissioner for Local Government and Town Union Affairs, Chief Tony Collins Nwabunwanne, the governor emphasized that no official election had been conducted in the community to select a new Igwe. He described the actions taken by individuals claiming otherwise as both criminal and unlawful.

Governor Soludo further directed the Anambra State Police Command to apprehend anyone falsely parading themselves as the traditional ruler of Oba.

The commissioner clarified that the matter remains sub judice, as there is an ongoing court case regarding the selection process for the community’s monarch.

“Until the court resolves the pending issues, Oba has no traditional ruler,” the governor affirmed.
