EFCC Detains 10 Officers Over Allegations of Operational Item Theft
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained 10 officers from its Lagos Zonal Command amid allegations of theft involving operational items. The action is part of an ongoing internal investigation aimed at fostering transparency and integrity within the commission.
The directive for the officers’ detention was issued by EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, as part of a broader strategy to combat corrupt practices and unethical conduct among the agency’s personnel. According to a statement shared on the EFCC’s official X account, the detained officers are currently under inquiry regarding their failure to account for certain operational items that are reportedly unaccounted for during their oversight.
This latest development follows recent reports indicating that 27 officers were dismissed from the EFCC for fraudulent activities and misconduct, a decision made upon the recommendations of the EFCC’s Staff Disciplinary Committee.
“We are making substantial progress in the investigations, and those found guilty will face internal disciplinary actions,” the EFCC stated.
