Bandits Demand N60m Ransom for Abducted Wife and Daughter of Slain Miyetti Allah Leader
Armed bandits have reportedly demanded a ransom of N60 million for the release of the wife and daughter of Alhaji Amadu Surajo, the Acting Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, who was kidnapped and murdered in Katsina State. Surajo was abducted alongside his two wives and an undergraduate daughter, along with other individuals, during an attack on Mai Rana village in the Kusada Local Government Area that occurred late on January 4 into the early hours of January 5.
Tragically, the bandits killed Surajo but later released his first wife. A family member, who requested anonymity, disclosed to Saturday PUNCH that the kidnappers reached out to the family early Saturday morning, demanding the ransom. Initially, the bandits insisted on receiving N80 million, but according to the source, they subsequently reduced their demand to N60 million.
“At first, they firmly asked for N80 million, but they later lowered the demand to N60 million. However, we currently do not have the funds to meet their request,” the source stated. The situation highlights the ongoing challenges posed by banditry in the region, leaving families in distress as they grapple with the demands of armed groups.
