A fifth-grade teacher from New Jersey, Laura Caron, aged 34, faces serious allegations of sexually abusing one of her students over a span of four years and subsequently bearing his child.
Caron became acquainted with the victim while teaching him and his brother at Middle Township Elementary School #2. According to the victim’s parents, their family developed a friendship with Caron, which led them to allow their three children to stay with her for one to two nights each week. However, in 2016, when the victim was just 11 years old, the siblings began residing with her full-time at her home in Cape May Court House.
The alleged abuses reportedly commenced that same year and continued until 2020. A criminal complaint filed by the victim’s sister indicates that the children initially shared a room on the second floor but soon, she began noticing her brother would wake up in Caron’s bed. Furthermore, she informed law enforcement that whenever her brother took a shower, Caron would enter the bathroom and lock the door behind her.
Another sibling of the victim claimed to have witnessed Caron assaulting their brother. The victim is said to have confessed to being the father of Caron’s five-year-old child and requested that this information remain confidential through messages to his sister, as reported by 6ABC. Authorities allege that the child was born in 2019 when the victim was only 13 and Caron was 28.
Victim Confirms Paternity of Teacher’s Child
During a police interview, the victim confirmed the sexual relationship with the teacher and acknowledged that the child was his. The situation came to light in December 2024 when the victim’s father made a social media post noting the child’s striking resemblance to himself and his son, prompting an investigation.
Caron is currently incarcerated at the Cape May County Correctional Center and is facing charges that include aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Middle Township Police Chief Tracey Super expressed commitment to the safety of children and assured parents that the department is collaborating closely with the Prosecutor’s Office to conduct a thorough investigation into the case.
Prosecutor Jeffery Sutherland emphasized the importance of maintaining trust in teachers, describing the allegations as a severe violation of that trust. He stated that law enforcement is dedicated to seeking justice for the victim and supporting his family through the legal process.
In an email to CBS, Middle Township School District Superintendent Dr. David Salvo confirmed that Caron was put on paid administrative leave immediately following the allegations and remains in that status as the investigation continues.
