Abuja, Nigeria – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has promoted 900 personnel, some of whom had been awaiting elevation for six to seven years. This announcement was made by the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, during the 2024 Rewards and Recognition Ceremony held in Abuja on Saturday.
Olukoyede also revealed that the commission has reinstated life and property insurance for its operatives, a policy that had been neglected for over two decades. He assured staff that measures were being taken to address welfare challenges, including transportation and cost of living adjustments.
“Efforts have been made to address the challenges we face in the discharge of our responsibilities,” Olukoyede said. “We are taking delivery of some buses to ease transportation problems and have approved the promotion of about 900 staff. For 20 years, there has been no life and property insurance, but within one to two months, we should finalize the policy.”
The chairman emphasized the commitment of the commission to improving personnel welfare. He hinted at plans for cost-of-living adjustments, saying, “I won’t reveal the full package until the proposal is finalized, but we will ensure that welfare is well taken care of within our resources. Even if we have to stretch ourselves, it is worth it considering the risks we take in this job.”
In a stern warning, Olukoyede cautioned against corrupt practices among EFCC personnel, stating that the ongoing internal cleansing in the commission would spare no one found culpable. He encouraged integrity and accountability, saying, “Hard work pays, and integrity has its rewards. For those taking shortcuts, I urge you to retrace your steps. Anything short of integrity is a disaster waiting to happen.”
As part of the ceremony, Olukoyede directed that a building in the EFCC Academy be named in honor of Aminu Salisu, an officer who was killed during an operation in Awka, Anambra State. He reiterated that the sacrifices of officers injured or killed in the line of duty would never be forgotten.
The commission also recognized 35 outstanding personnel, including Maryam Ahmed, Eunice Dalylop, F.A. Jirbo, Mukhtar Ahmed, Michael Uchechika, Ezire Ufuoma, Nenman Danladi, and Yusuf Umar, among others.
Olukoyede concluded by reassuring staff that the management was dedicated to fostering a supportive environment and upholding the values of the EFCC.
