U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order barring transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports, a move he calls a victory for fairness in female athletics. The order, signed at the White House on Wednesday, could strip federal funding from schools that fail to comply.

“The war on women’s sports is over,”

Trump declared before signing the order, flanked by female athletes and young children. His remarks were met with applause from supporters, including House Speaker Mike Johnson and Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene.

“We will defend the proud tradition of female athletes and will not allow men to beat up, injure, and cheat our women and girls. From now on, women’s sports will be for women,”

Trump added.

Federal Funds To Stop Going To Trans Schools

The executive order gives government agencies the authority to deny federal funding to schools that allow transgender athletes to compete on women’s teams.

“It is the policy of the United States to rescind all funds from educational programs that deprive women and girls of fair athletic opportunities,”

the order reads.

Trump also announced plans to pressure the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to revise its transgender participation rules before the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. He directed Secretary of State Marco Rubio to push for changes, saying the issue is “absolutely ridiculous.”

Additionally, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has been instructed to deny visas to individuals attempting to enter the U.S. under a fraudulent gender identity to compete in women’s sports.

Culture War on Trans Rights

Since returning to office, Trump has taken multiple steps to roll back transgender rights. He previously signed an order banning transgender individuals from serving in the military and another restricting gender transition procedures for those under 19.

During the 2024 presidential campaign, Trump frequently targeted transgender rights, using slogans like “Kamala Harris is for they/them. President Trump is for you” to attack his Democratic opponent.

His latest executive order follows a Republican-led bill in the House of Representatives passed in January, which sought to limit transgender participation in girls’ and women’s sports nationwide.

With transgender visibility growing in the U.S., gender norms and fairness in sports remain divisive issues. While many conservatives support Trump’s stance, critics argue that his policies fuels discrimination.
