Port Harcourt, Nigeria – The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has commenced placements and payments for 10,000 beneficiaries under its Youth Internship Scheme, aimed at equipping young people in the region with practical skills and experience.

In a statement released on its official X page, the Commission confirmed that the selection process had been completed and successful applicants were now being placed in various organizations for the one-year internship program. The initiative is designed to provide participants with hands-on training and enhance their employability.

Transparent Selection Process

The NDDC emphasized that the selection was conducted through a rigorous and transparent process to ensure fairness. With over 3.2 million youths applying for the scheme, the high demand highlighted the need for such empowerment programs.

“The Commission remains steadfast in ensuring this life-changing opportunity reaches the most deserving candidates, creating a lasting impact and paving the way for a brighter future,” the NDDC stated.

Digital Database for Youth Development

As part of its broader strategy, the Commission has developed a comprehensive digital database to track the skills, qualifications, and interests of young people in the region. This initiative aims to facilitate the design of targeted programs that align with the economic potential of the Niger Delta and the aspirations of its youth.

Partnership with KPMG for Transparency

To further enhance governance and transparency, the NDDC has partnered with global consultancy firm KPMG. The firm has provided a Governance Advisory Report to help the Commission transition from a transactional to a transformational model in its operations.

“This data-driven approach enables the Commission to design targeted programmes that address the unique needs of the vibrant and resourceful youth population,” the statement added.

The NDDC expressed appreciation to stakeholders in the Niger Delta, including applicants who participated in the selection process. The Commission acknowledged their patience and support, assuring them of its commitment to transparency and fairness.

Aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the NDDC pledged to continue implementing impactful programs that empower young people and contribute to the socio-economic development of the region.
