Madrid, Spain – Kylian Mbappe has made history by becoming the youngest player to reach 500 goal contributions in his professional career, surpassing the records set by football legends Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Neymar. The Real Madrid forward achieved this milestone in his team’s 1-1 LaLiga derby draw against Atlético Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday.

At 26 years old, Mbappe has amassed a staggering 313 goals and 187 assists in official matches for both club and country. This milestone cements his reputation as one of the most prolific attackers in football history, further solidifying his place among the sport’s greats.

Mbappe’s Journey to the Historic Milestone

Mbappe’s journey to 500 goal contributions has been nothing short of extraordinary. The French international first burst onto the scene as a teenager with AS Monaco, where his electric pace, dribbling skills, and finishing ability quickly caught the attention of Europe’s top clubs. He played a key role in Monaco’s 2016-17 Ligue 1 title-winning campaign, scoring 26 goals and providing 14 assists across all competitions. His performances in the UEFA Champions League that season, where he scored against the likes of Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund, further established him as a future superstar.

In 2017, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) secured his services in a blockbuster transfer worth €180 million, making him the most expensive teenager in football history. Over his seven-year spell at PSG, Mbappe scored 256 goals and registering 108 assists. He helped the Parisian club dominate French football, winning multiple Ligue 1 titles, Coupe de France trophies, and other domestic honors.

Mbappe’s steered in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where he played a key role in France’s triumph. At 19, he became the youngest player since Pelé to score in a World Cup final, netting against Croatia in a 4-2 victory. He finished the tournament with four goals and was awarded the FIFA World Cup Best Young Player award.

How Mbappe Compares to Messi, Ronaldo, and Neymar at 26

With his latest milestone, Mbappe has reached 500 goal contributions at a younger age and in fewer matches than some of football’s greatest players.

At 26, Lionel Messi had accumulated 487 goal contributions (348 goals and 139 assists). While the Argentine went on to become the all-time leading goal scorer for both Barcelona and Argentina, Mbappe has outpaced him at this stage of his career.

Neymar, another player known for his flair and creativity, had 492 contributions (321 goals and 171 assists) by the same age, slightly behind Mbappe’s tally.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who evolved into one of the greatest goal-scorers in football history, had 302 contributions (213 goals and 89 assists) at 26. The Portuguese forward reached his peak in the years that followed, becoming Real Madrid’s all-time leading scorer and winning multiple Ballon d’Or awards.

Mbappe’s achievement suggests that he is on track to potentially surpass the all-time records of Messi and Ronaldo if he maintains his current scoring and assist rate over the next decade.

A Controversial Move to Real Madrid

Kylian Mbappe’s record-breaking form this season has been integral to Real Madrid’s success. Since joining Los Blancos last summer, he has scored 23 goals in all competitions, further enhancing his reputation as one of the world’s best attackers.

His transfer to Madrid, however, was not without controversy. After spending seven years at PSG, Mbappe’s relationship with the club deteriorated when he refused to sign a contract extension. This led to tensions between him and the club’s management, with the superstar being benched in several matches. Despite the fallout, Mbappe maintained his professionalism and continued to deliver standout performances for PSG until the end of his contract.

His decision to join Madrid was met with mixed reactions from fans and pundits. While many viewed it as the next logical step in his career, others criticized the manner in which he left PSG. Regardless, his impact at Real Madrid has been immediate, and he has quickly established himself as a key player for manager Carlo Ancelotti.

What’s Next for Mbappe?

As Mbappe continues to shatter records, the question now is how far he can go. With Real Madrid competing for major titles in LaLiga, the UEFA Champions League, and domestic cup competitions, he has the opportunity to add more silverware to his already impressive collection.

On the international stage, Mbappe remains a key figure for France. After leading his nation to the 2022 World Cup final, where he scored a stunning hat-trick against Argentina in a dramatic match that ended in a penalty shootout loss, he will be aiming to lead Les Bleus to more glory in future tournaments, including the 2026 World Cup.
