Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who has filed a ₦100.3 billion fundamental human rights lawsuit against Akpabio, stated that she has evidence to support her claims, including screenshots of conversations and testimony from her husband.
Abuja, Nigeria – Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment, alleging that he is politically punishing her for rejecting his advances.
In an interview with ARISE TV on Friday, Akpoti-Uduaghan claimed that Akpabio had made inappropriate remarks towards her and that her refusal to comply led to a series of political setbacks, including the delay of her motion on the Ajaokuta Steel Company.
Her allegations come amid a growing dispute with Akpabio, which escalated when she discovered that her Senate seat had been changed without her consent. The controversy led to her referral to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions for disciplinary review. The committee, chaired by Senator Neda Imaseun (LP, Edo South), has been given two weeks to report its findings.
Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who has filed a ₦100.3 billion fundamental human rights lawsuit against Akpabio, stated that she has evidence to support her claims, including screenshots of conversations and testimony from her husband.
Detailing her allegations, the senator recounted an incident from December 8, 2023, when she and her husband visited Akwa Ibom for Akpabio’s birthday. She claimed that during a tour of his residence, Akpabio allegedly told her he wanted her to “spend special moments” in his house. Her husband, she said, overheard the comment and later advised her against being alone with the Senate President.
Further, she alleged that in February 2024, while attempting to move a motion for an investigation into corruption at the Ajaokuta Steel Company, Akpabio repeatedly delayed its listing. She said she confronted him in his office, urging him to allow the motion, to which he allegedly responded:
“Natasha, I’m the Chief Presiding Officer of the Senate. You can enjoy a whole lot if you take care of me. Make me happy.”
Akpoti-Uduaghan claimed she ignored the remark and left his office.
The Senate President has yet to respond to the allegations, which have since sparked widespread reactions online.
