Angie Stone, The Grammy-nominated singer and member of the iconic hip-hop trio The Sequence was the only fatality in a devastating highway accident while traveling back to Atlanta.
Grammy-nominated R&B icon Angie Stone, known for her soulful hits like Wish I Didn’t Miss You and her role in the pioneering hip-hop trio The Sequence, has died in a devastating car crash. She was 63.
The accident occurred early Saturday morning while Stone was traveling back to Atlanta from Alabama. According to her longtime manager, Walter Millsap III, the vehicle she was in flipped over and was struck by a big rig. Stone was the only fatality.
The Alabama Highway Patrol confirmed that the crash happened around 4:25 a.m. on Interstate 65, about five miles south of Montgomery. The 2021 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van carrying Stone overturned before being hit by a Freightliner Cascadia truck driven by a 33-year-old Texas man.
Eight others in the van, including the driver, were rushed to Baptist Medical Center for treatment. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident.
Millsap, who received the heartbreaking news from Stone’s daughter, Diamond, and fellow The Sequence member Blondy, described the loss as “devastating.”
