Port Harcourt, Nigeria – A pro-Governor Siminalayi Fubara group, Supreme Council for Sim Worldwide, has issued a strong warning against any attempt to impeach the Rivers State governor, cautioning that such a move could lead to widespread unrest.

At a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, the group’s leader, Esezi Obilor Rukani, condemned the ongoing efforts by 27 lawmakers seeking to remove Fubara from office. He urged them to reconsider their stance, emphasizing that Rivers people would resist any attempt to unseat the governor.

“We understand how impeachment works, but before the process even begins, the state will be in turmoil. Governor Fubara is a leader loved by the masses, and while he may choose peace, the people who elected these lawmakers will not sit back and watch,” Rukani stated.

His remarks follow a call by Rivers APC Chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, who demanded Fubara’s resignation or impeachment, citing alleged violations of the rule of law.

Lawmakers Risk Recall, Says Rukani

Rukani further cautioned that legislators pushing for the governor’s removal could face consequences from their constituents.

“The governor himself may not fight them, but the people will. Lawmakers were elected to serve, not to create instability. If they continue on this path, the electorate has the power to recall them,” he warned.

He also dismissed claims that Fubara had committed any impeachable offense, questioning the justification behind calls for his resignation.

“What exactly has he done wrong? Previously, they attempted to impeach him without providing any reasons. Now, some individuals who do not have the best interests of the state at heart are demanding his resignation or removal. This is unacceptable,” he added.

Reaffirming the group’s support for Fubara, Rukani declared that any move to force him out of office would be met with stiff resistance.

“Our focus is not just on this first term; we are already preparing for his second term. No matter what happens, Governor Fubara will complete his tenure in good health. He is a divine choice for Rivers State, achieving milestones where others failed,” he asserted.

Addressing lawmakers, he urged them to prioritize peace over political conflicts.

“The Speaker and other legislators must understand that they were not elected to wage war. If they misuse their mandate, the people will take action and recall them,” he added.

Ambassador Joshua Fubara, the group’s Convener and National Leader, also praised the governor’s efforts, noting that his administration has made significant strides within a short period.

“Governor Fubara has proven to be a man of peace. His administration has implemented key policies, promoted civil servants, and embarked on major infrastructural projects like the Port Harcourt Ring Road and the Trans-Kalahari Road,” he stated.

He dismissed the impeachment calls as baseless and urged political stakeholders to work together for the state’s progress.

“The focus should be on unity and development. Rivers State plays a crucial role in Nigeria’s economy, and any crisis here will have national implications. We must ensure stability for the benefit of all,” he concluded.
