Port Harcourt, Nigeria – The ongoing political crisis in Rivers State has taken a fresh turn as the State House of Assembly has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate the Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Amadi, over allegations of age falsification.
During plenary on Thursday, the Leader of the House, Hon. Major Jack, presented certain documents to the Speaker, which allegedly suggest discrepancies in the Chief Judge’s official records. This prompted the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Dumle Maol, to raise concerns about the implications of such allegations.
“These documents before me indicate that the Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Amadi, may have falsified his age in service,” Maol stated. “Mr. Speaker, this is a serious matter, and I hope the House takes legislative notice of it.”
Following deliberations, the lawmakers resolved to formally request the DSS to launch an investigation into the matter and report back with their findings.
Presiding over the session, Speaker Martin Amaewhule emphasized the need for due process, noting that while the documents suggest a possible case of age falsification, an investigation is necessary to ascertain the facts.
With a voice vote, the House unanimously agreed to forward a letter to the DSS, requesting an official probe into the allegations against the Chief Judge.
