The EFCC, acting on actionable intelligence, apprehended Huseini for the offence shortly after the event. In its statement, the Commission confirmed that the act was carried out in defiance of repeated public warnings against naira abuse.
Kano, Nigeria – Federal High Court in Kano has sentenced a popular make-up artist, Abdullahi Huseini, widely known as Amuscap, to six months in prison for violating Nigeria’s currency laws by abusing the Naira during his wedding ceremony.
Justice S.M. Shuaibu delivered the judgment after Huseini pleaded guilty to a one-count charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which accused him of tampering with the Nigerian currency in a manner contrary to Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.
According to the charge, the offence took place on December 6, 2024, at the Ali Jita Event Centre in Kano, where Huseini was seen spraying N100,000 in N1,000 denominations while dancing during the celebration. The act, deemed as deliberate mutilation and abuse of the currency, was in clear violation of existing financial laws.
The EFCC, acting on actionable intelligence, apprehended Huseini for the offence shortly after the event. In its statement, the Commission confirmed that the act was carried out in defiance of repeated public warnings against naira abuse.

During the proceedings, prosecuting counsel Zarami Mohammed presented the court with key facts and documentary evidence to support the charge. Following the review of the submissions and Huseini’s admission of guilt, the court pronounced him guilty.
Justice Shuaibu thereafter imposed a six-month custodial sentence on the convict, with no option of a fine, meaning Huseini will serve the entire jail term.
The development comes amid Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on the abuse and defacing of its currency, particularly during social events where the spraying of Naira notes remains rampant despite legal prohibitions.
