Secondus’ call follows the recent invitation extended to Sole Administrator Ibas by the Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight, which is set to engage him in an interactive session concerning governance issues in the state.
Port Harcourt, Nigeria – Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to reinstate the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, insisting that such a move is crucial to restoring the will of the people.
In a statement released on Easter Sunday through his Special Adviser on Media, Ike Abonyi, Secondus condemned the current state of affairs in Rivers, warning that the actions of the state’s Sole Administrator, Ibok-Ete Ibas, are pushing the state toward a dangerous tipping point.
“The Sole Administrator’s activities have set Rivers State on a keg of gunpowder, and I weep for my state,” he said. “Sadly, Rivers State has found itself on the wrong side of history, as one individual seeks to control both the resources and destiny of the entire state.”
Secondus commended the Ijaw nation for their composure in the face of provocations, describing them as the fourth largest ethnic group in Nigeria with a presence in over 30 local government areas across seven states.
“My special appreciation goes to the Ijaw nation, its leaders and people, for their restraint. Despite being tested, they have chosen peace over violence,” he stated.
He also used the occasion to urge Christians across the country to embrace the values associated with the Easter celebration. “The Easter period reminds us of Christ’s teachings on love, peaceful co-existence, justice, equity, and humility. These values must guide our actions, especially in turbulent times like this,” he said.
Secondus’ call follows the recent invitation extended to Sole Administrator Ibas by the Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight, which is set to engage him in an interactive session concerning governance issues in the state.
In March, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending Governor Fubara, his deputy, and members of the State House of Assembly amid a protracted political crisis that has rocked the oil-rich state.
Secondus emphasized that the only path to lasting peace and justice in the state is to heed the “voice of reason” and reinstate Fubara, who, according to him, still holds the legitimate mandate of Rivers people.
