Fubara called on both public and private sector employers to respect labour laws and uphold the rights of every worker, stating that decent working conditions are not only a legal obligation but also a moral imperative.
Port Harcourt, Nigeria – Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has lauded the unwavering commitment and patriotism of workers in the state, describing them as the driving force behind Rivers’ development and a symbol of hope amid the prevailing political turbulence.
In a statement released on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, to commemorate the 2025 Workers’ Day, Fubara extended solidarity to the workforce and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting workers’ welfare, justice, and dignity.
Fubara called on both public and private sector employers to respect labour laws and uphold the rights of every worker, stating that decent working conditions are not only a legal obligation but also a moral imperative.
While acknowledging the resilience of Rivers workers in the face of governance disruptions, Fubara expressed gratitude for their consistent demonstration of integrity and dedication to duty. He emphasized that their sacrifices remain the foundation of the state’s stability and future growth.
The governor noted that this year’s Workers’ Day theme, “Ensuring Safety and Health at Work in a Changing Climate,” reflects the pressing need to safeguard workers from growing environmental challenges and socio-political instability. He stressed that prioritizing occupational health and safety is vital to achieving sustainable development.
Fubara also praised the efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s administration in pushing forward labour reforms and promoting climate-conscious policies that aim to create a safer and healthier work environment across the country.
Encouraging Rivers people to remain united and hopeful, Fubara declared that the forces of justice, peace, and progress will ultimately triumph. He prayed for divine wisdom for all leaders and pledged to continue fostering a work environment anchored on dignity, opportunity, and prosperity.
