Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, on Sunday paid a visit to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the incarcerated leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), at the Sokoto Correctional Centre.
The visit was confirmed by Kanu’s special counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, and his younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, who both shared updates on their Facebook pages.
In his post, Ejimakor expressed gratitude to the governor, writing: “Thank you for fulfilling the promise you made to me to visit your brother, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. You are a man of your word and courageous to the core. May God bless you, and may this august visit mark the first step toward ending this undeserved ordeal sooner than later.”
Similarly, Emmanuel Kanu noted that the governor’s presence in Sokoto sent a “unified statement” from both Governor Otti and the people of Sokoto in solidarity with Nnamdi Kanu.

It will be recalled that following Kanu’s sentencing to life imprisonment, Governor Otti had disclosed that efforts were already underway to secure his release. According to him, he had activated a strategy to pursue Kanu’s final freedom—a process he said he initiated during the IPOB leader’s trial.
