The family of late Nollywood actor, Johnpaul Obumneme Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope, has discredited the alleged obituary poster of the actor that is being circulated on the internet and labelled it “fake”.

Guardian Newspaper’s Publication Misinforms Public on Junior Pope
A report by the Guardian Newspaper in Nigeria has misrepresented facts about late Nollywood actor Junior Pope.
In its report dated April 18, 2024, the Guardian Newspaper falsely reported that the family of the late actor had solicited support from the government of Rivers state.
In the report titled “AGN Solicits Rivers Govt’s Support For Late Junior Pope’s Family” the Guardian wrongly referred to Junior Pope as Precious Chimaobi Ofurum and cited a visit of the Rivers state chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria to the governor of Rivers state, soliciting support for Ofurum’s family.
Precious Chimaobi Ofurum, a sound engineer with Nollywood was one of the victims of the boat mishap that also claimed Junior Pope’s life and a few others.
A family source of the actor who brought the issue to the attention of REPORT AFRIQUE said efforts were made to get the Guardian Newspaper to correct the misinformation but the media outlet has not taken any actions to retrace its step on the misrepresentation of facts, and misinformation of its readers about the late actor, Junior Pope.
For the records, late actor Junior Pope’s real name is Johnpaul Obumneme Odonwodo and not Precious Chimaobi Ofurum. Despite available facts on Wikipedia and other reliable sources, the Guardian Newspaper went on with its report and refused to make corrections despite efforts by Junior Pope’s family to reach out to its editors.
