The Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, has adjourned proceedings concerning a DNA test application to determine the paternity of Liam, the son of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
The adjournment comes after settlement discussions between the Aloba family and Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi.
During the court session on July 9, Chief Magistrate Mrs. A.B. Olagbegi-Adelabu directed both parties to pursue alternative dispute resolution. Despite these efforts, the negotiations failed to reach an agreement due to unspecified “external factors,” according to Monisola Odumosu, the Aloba family’s legal representative.
Emmanuel Oroko of Hillceetee Partners, representing Joseph Aloba, reported the unsuccessful settlement efforts to the court, and M.K.O Orire, representing the respondent, confirmed the breakdown. Consequently, the court has adjourned the case to an undisclosed date to hear all pending applications related to the DNA test.
The Aloba family initially requested the DNA test amid paternity disputes about Mohbad’s son, which became a contentious topic on social media following the singer’s death. Wunmi, Mohbad’s wife, has repeatedly faced bullying and threats to her and her son’s lives due to her insistence on obtaining a proper court order before releasing the DNA test results.
Odumosu clarified that no official spokesperson had been designated by the Aloba family, disavowing any unauthorized statements made without the legal team’s approval.
