Music moguls Jay-Z and Diddy face serious allegations of sexual assault, with lawsuits shedding light on claims from a 2000 MTV VMAs afterparty incident.
Rapper and producer Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, is facing a lawsuit alleging he and fellow music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs raped a 13-year-old girl during an afterparty following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. The plaintiff, whose identity remains undisclosed, filed the case on Sunday, with updated court documents naming Carter as “Celebrity A” previously mentioned in the lawsuit.
The complaint alleges that the two men sexually assaulted the minor while others at the event failed to intervene.
“Carter has been with Combs during many such instances described herein. Both perpetrators must face justice,”
the lawsuit states.
Jay-Z, 55, who is a billionaire producer and entrepreneur married to global superstar Beyoncé, has vehemently denied the accusations. In a statement shared by Roc Nation on X (formerly Twitter), he accused attorney Tony Buzbee, who represents the plaintiff, of engaging in a “blackmail attempt” with the civil lawsuit.
“These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!” Jay-Z’s statement read. “Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away. These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case.”
Buzbee, however, defended the claims. Speaking to AFP, he said,
“The pleading speaks for itself. This is a very serious matter that will be litigated in court.”
Sean “Diddy” Combs Faces Separate Legal Battles
Combs, 55, who has also been charged with sex trafficking and racketeering in separate federal cases, has pleaded not guilty to all allegations. Prosecutors accuse him of coercing women into drug-fueled sex parties using threats and violence. His criminal trial is set to begin on May 5, 2025.
Buzbee has been vocal about representing over 100 alleged victims in cases against Combs. The wave of lawsuits could escalate as more allegations emerge against the hip-hop star.
Both music moguls are under intense public scrutiny as these cases unfold, with Carter and Combs continuing to deny any wrongdoing.
