Tito Jackson, Jackson 5 Member, Dies at 70

According to family friend Steve Manning, Tito Jackson died of an apparent heart attack on Sunday while driving from New Mexico to his home in Oklahoma.

US – Tito Jackson, guitarist, singer, and an original member of the legendary Jackson 5, has passed away at the age of 70.

Jackson’s sons, Taj, Taryll, and TJ—who form the music group 3T—announced the news late Sunday via Instagram.

“It’s with heavy hearts that we announce that our beloved father, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tito Jackson, is no longer with us,” the statement read, accompanied by a photo of Tito with his sons. “We are shocked, saddened, and heartbroken. Our father was an incredible man who cared about everyone and their well-being. Please remember to do what our father always preached, and that is ‘Love One Another.’ We love you Pops.”

According to family friend Steve Manning, Tito Jackson died of an apparent heart attack on Sunday while driving from New Mexico to his home in Oklahoma. Jackson had recently performed with his brothers Marlon and Jackie as The Jacksons in Germany, England, and California.

The Jackson 5’s Original Roster Included Tito, Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael. The group, after signing with Motown Records in 1969, achieved global fame with hits like “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” and “I’ll Be There.”

In 1997, Tito and his brothers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by fellow Motown legend Diana Ross. Tito continued to perform throughout his life, forming his own blues and funk band in 2003.

His solo career gained traction in 2016 with the release of his debut solo album Tito Time, followed by his second album, Under Your Spell, in 2021.

Tito Jackson is survived by his three sons. His former wife, Dolores, passed away in 1994.
