Nollywood veteran Wale Ojo is stepping into the director’s chair for his new satirical film titled This Is Not a Nollywood Movie.

The film, which Ojo announced on August 17, 2024, via Instagram, is described as an “explosive comedy” aimed at bringing joy and laughter to audiences. Despite its tongue-in-cheek title, the film is very much a Nollywood production, with Ojo emphasizing that its primary purpose is to entertain through humor.

“Presenting my second directorial feature, ‘This is Not a Nollywood Movie.’ This satirical film is an explosive comedy that promises its way to your hearts through joy and laughter.”

“Don’t be fooled by the title, it’s tongue-in-cheek, it’s all about laughs cos I believe laughter is an orgasm of the heart and that is the purpose and the aim of this film.”

Wale Ojo, who began his acting career as a child in the UK and rose to fame in Nollywood with his 1995 role in The Hard Case, has built an impressive career over the decades. His accolades include a Best Actor award at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards in 2012 for his role in Phone Swap and a nomination for Best Actor in a Comedy at the 2018 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) for the series Meet the Adebanjos. Most recently, he won Best Lead Actor at the 2024 AMVCA for his role in Breath of Life.

In addition to his acting and directing work, Ojo is a strong advocate for the Nigerian film industry. He founded the New Nigeria Cinema project, which focuses on enhancing the quality and global reach of Nigerian films. He is also active in educational initiatives, mentoring young talent in the arts.

This Is Not a Nollywood Movie will feature a star studded cast, including Hanks Anuku, Shatta Bandle, Broda Shaggi, and Boma Akpore.
