NAFDAC cautions Nigerians to avoid uncertified alcoholic drinks and fruit juices during the festive season, urging healthier choices for public safety.
As Christmas festivities draw near, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has cautioned Nigerians against consuming unregulated alcoholic beverages and substandard fruit juices. The agency emphasizes the importance of health-conscious choices to avoid potential risks posed by unverified products.
The Director-General, Mojisola Adeyeye, urged Nigerians to prioritize health during this season by steering clear of uncertified beverages. Speaking at a forum organized by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, she warned:
“I want to admonish Nigerians, especially during this Yuletide, to avoid alcohol and juices not certified by NAFDAC. Avoid alcohol and substandard juices for your health.”
Adeyeye encouraged Nigerians to embrace fresh fruits and vegetables as healthier alternatives to sugary drinks and alcohol. She described nutrient-rich foods as preventive medicines that can boost overall health:
“Foods with quality nutrients are like medicines in many cases as they can potentially prevent diseases in the body.”
NAFDAC has identified the surge of counterfeit and substandard fruit juices in the market during the festive period. These products often lack proper regulatory approval, posing serious health risks to consumers. Adeyeye reassured the public of the agency’s vigilance:
“NAFDAC is committed to ensuring public safety through stringent regulatory measures and market surveillance.”

Advises Nigerians to adopt these safety measures:
