Pregnant Woman in Labour Tragically Dies After Allegedly Being Denied Treatment Over Deposit Fee
In a heartbreaking incident, a pregnant woman has reportedly died during labour after being denied treatment at a hospital due to her inability to pay a ₦500,000 deposit. The distressing story, initially shared on Instagram by her husband Akinbobola Folajimi in February, has recently gained traction on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
In a poignant video that circulated online, the expectant mother, Kemi, is seen in a car appearing weak and unsteady as her husband desperately attempts to keep her conscious. He repeatedly calls her name, urging her to hold on for their children. “My goodness, Kemi, look at me. Stay strong, look at me. Think about your kids, please. You need to be very strong for me,” he pleads in the emotional footage.
Folajimi later revealed in a post announcing Kemi’s death that they first sought assistance at a private hospital but were turned away due to their inability to afford the deposit. They were subsequently directed to a general hospital in Epe, but Kemi tragically did not survive the journey.
In his heart-wrenching post, Folajimi recounted, “Private hospitals in Nigeria. The doctor told me to deposit 500k and I begged him to start doing whatever is needed to save my wife. We needed emergency support while I ran around for the money, but they drove us out as if they didn’t care. Unfortunately, they blindly rejected us and directed me to the General Hospital at Epe, even knowing that Epe from Lakwe is far too distant for such a critical situation. Before we rushed her to Epe, she was gone.”
He concluded his post with a powerful message about the tragedy, stating, “How???? Such a wicked institution. Well, only God knows and sees all. This is just too much for me.”
As the video continues to circulate online, many viewers have taken to the comments section to express their outrage and condolences, highlighting serious concerns about the accessibility and affordability of healthcare in Nigeria.
