The Katsina State Police Command has apprehended a 16-year-old suspect, Nuhu Haruna, from the Dutsinma Local Government Area, in connection with the alleged murder of his stepmother. This arrest is part of the police’s broader crackdown on kidnapping and homicide activities within the region.

Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed at a press briefing on Wednesday that Haruna’s arrest followed a tragic confrontation with his stepmother, Rabi Haruna, 40, resulting in her death. The incident occurred on October 21, 2024, at approximately 1:00 PM.

ASP Sadiq outlined the sequence of events, stating, “The suspect reportedly struck his stepmother with a stick in the stomach during a dispute, which ultimately led to her untimely demise.”

In a separate investigation, police detained Abubakar Nasiru, also known as Haro, from Daura Local Government Area on charges of criminal conspiracy and kidnapping. Nasiru, who has a prior conviction for rape, is linked to a kidnapping case under investigation. He allegedly conspired with accomplices—who remain at large—to abduct three victims from Unguwar Maza village in Kafur LGA in 2023. A ransom of N13 million was reportedly paid for their release, with Nasiru admitting to receiving N2 million from this sum.

Authorities are working tirelessly to locate and capture Nasiru’s cohorts.

Additionally, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the police captured Ibrahim Isah, a resident of Yana village in Charanchi LGA. Isah is accused of contacting the family of a missing man, Bello Sani, demanding N1 million as ransom for his safe return. After receiving a tip-off, police were able to trace and apprehend him.

In another operation, Katsina police, in conjunction with the Gombe State Police Command, arrested 25-year-old Nasiru Sanusi from Gidan Daudu village in Kankara LGA. He is accused of conspiring with three others to kidnap his uncle, the local ward head. After reportedly receiving N8 million and six bags of fertilizer as ransom, the victim was killed by the gang. Sanusi managed to flee to multiple states, including Lagos, Taraba, and Gombe, where he continued his criminal activities until his capture.

“We are committed to following all leads to apprehend the remaining suspects and ensure justice prevails in these cases,” ASP Sadiq stated, reaffirming the police’s dedication to tackling crime in the state. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to bring all involved parties to justice.
