Lagos, Nigeria – Digital journalist and prominent activist Philip Thomas, widely known as Comrade Phils, has issued a grave warning regarding the safety of fellow activist Verydarkman (VDM). VDM is currently in police custody following reports that he was invited for questioning about a video in which he appears to be wearing a police uniform. The information about his detention was made public by his lawyer, Adeyanju Deji.

In a passionate Facebook post, Thomas emphasized the delicate situation surrounding VDM’s arrest. He pointed out that, although no individual is above the law, the Nigeria Police Force must recognize the public’s heightened sensitivity regarding VDM’s recent exposé of alleged corruption among high-ranking officials in the police and government.

“VDM’s revelations have undoubtedly marked him as a person of interest among those in power,” Thomas said. “Any attempts to undermine him through dubious charges or flimsy routes will be seen as a blatant infringement on his rights and an attempt to silence a vocal advocate for justice in Nigeria.”

Thomas stressed the responsibility of the police to ensure VDM’s protection and fair treatment while in custody, highlighting that any deviation from this could provoke significant public outrage. “In these trying times, with citizens already grappling with frustrations stemming from adverse government policies, it would be reckless for authorities to exacerbate tensions.”

He asserted that the Nigerian public would not tolerate any actions perceived as oppressive, vowing to resist such measures through legal and civic channels. “We demand his immediate release. The public will not be complacent in the face of injustice.”

The #FreeVDM campaign has gained momentum online, with numerous supporters rallying to demand accountability and transparency from law enforcement agencies. As the situation unfolds, calls for VDM’s release reflect a growing concern among activists about the state of freedom of expression and civil rights in Nigeria.

Activists like Philip Thomas are poised to play a crucial role in ensuring that VDM’s rights are upheld, and that the ongoing struggle against corruption and injustice continues to gain visibility in the public discourse. The Nigerian people are watching closely, ready to respond to any further developments in this pressing situation.
