Chinua Achebe International Airport in Anambra Set for Night Operations with New Facilities
The Anambra State government has announced that the Chinua Achebe International Airport will soon be equipped to handle nighttime aircraft landings, following the installation of new lighting systems.
Information Commissioner Dr. Law Mefor shared the news in a statement, noting that the decision to approve the project was made during the 34th Anambra State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.
Mefor explained, “The Anambra State Executive Council has adopted several initiatives, including the installation of Airfield Lighting at Chinua Achebe International Airport, which will enable aircraft to land safely at night. The contract for this project has been awarded to Mercy Aviation Communication Electronics and Industries Nig Ltd.”
The contract for the airfield lighting was valued at ₦489,716,250, with a projected completion timeframe of two weeks.
In addition to the lighting project, the council also approved a contract totaling ₦125,807,290.63, awarded to Red Clay Consulting for the creation of a responsive and commercially viable master plan aimed at enhancing Anambra’s heritage sites and tourist attractions.
Furthermore, the reconstruction of the gate at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital has been awarded to Triseconds Resources Ltd. for ₦112,700,000.00, with an expected completion period of two months.
Mefor also highlighted that the Executive Council has approved a combination of both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to address security concerns, ensuring a safer environment for all Anambra residents.
