Call For Applications: Youth Sustainable Enterprise Challenge Program (YSEC) Launches
In a pivotal move to empower the youth of Nigeria and foster economic growth, the Youth Sustainable Enterprise Challenge Program (YSEC) has been launched, offering training, mentorship, and funding opportunities to aspiring entrepreneurs.

Lagos, Nigeria- This transformative initiative aims to unleash the potential of young individuals, equipping them with the expertise, skills, and mindset necessary to launch and scale successful, sustainable businesses.

With the goal of cultivating a new generation of innovative and socially responsible entrepreneurs, YSEC seeks to drive economic growth, create jobs, and contribute to the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS, 2023), small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play a vital role in Nigeria’s economy, contributing 48% of the country’s GDP and employing over 84% of the workforce. Lagos, the commercial hub of Nigeria, accounts for a substantial share of this contribution.

In Lagos alone, SMEs represent about 80% of the state’s businesses and provide approximately 75% of employment. This statistic underscores the critical role that SMEs play as a driver of both economic activity and job creation. The entrepreneurial base not only supports domestic economic growth but also positions Lagos as a key player in West Africa’s economic landscape.

As part of its initiative, YSEC will focus on practical skills development, offering participants training in core skills such as financial literacy, business planning, creative problem-solving, and effective communication.

“Our aim is to create a dynamic environment where young entrepreneurs can thrive,” said a spokesperson for the YSEC program. “We believe that by equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge, we can help them overcome the challenges they face and contribute meaningfully to the economy.”

A standout feature of the YSEC program is its immersive business simulation game, ‘Pop-Up,’ designed to provide participants with a hands-on experience in entrepreneurship. This interactive game challenges young entrepreneurs to launch, manage, and grow a virtual business in a realistic market environment.

Participants will engage in decision-making processes that mirror real-world business challenges, enhancing their understanding of market dynamics and business operations.

“The business simulation game will allow participants to experiment with their ideas in a risk-free environment,” the spokesperson added. “This practical experience is invaluable as they transition from theory to real-world application.”

The program also emphasizes mentorship, pairing participants with seasoned entrepreneurs and industry experts. Mentors will provide guidance, support, and insights based on their own experiences, helping young entrepreneurs navigate the complexities of starting and running a business.

“Mentorship is a critical component of our program,” the spokesperson noted. “Having access to experienced entrepreneurs can significantly increase the chances of success for our participants.”

Funding is another crucial aspect of the YSEC program. Participants will have the opportunity to secure funding for their business ventures, providing them with the necessary financial resources to bring their ideas to life.

“Access to funding is often a significant barrier for young entrepreneurs. Through YSEC, we aim to bridge that gap and empower them to turn their visions into reality.”

Lagos State, recognized for its vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem, serves as the ideal backdrop for this initiative. The city’s diverse economy and dynamic business environment offer a wealth of opportunities for young entrepreneurs to thrive. YSEC will tap into this ecosystem, fostering collaboration and innovation among participants. “We are excited to launch this program in Lagos, a city known for its entrepreneurial spirit. We believe that the energy and creativity of the youth in this city will lead to groundbreaking ideas and successful ventures.”

Applications for the YSEC program are now open, and interested individuals are encouraged to apply. The selection process will be competitive, aiming to identify passionate and driven young entrepreneurs who are ready to take their business ideas to the next level.

“We are looking for innovative thinkers who are committed to making a positive impact in their communities. This program is not just about business; it’s about creating a movement of change-makers.” The spokesperson emphasized.

In addition to the practical skills development and mentorship, YSEC will also host networking events, workshops, and seminars throughout the program. These events will provide participants with opportunities to connect with other entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and potential investors, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing within the entrepreneurial community.
