Chiamaka Nnadozie, the Nigerian international goalkeeper, has made headlines by becoming the first African and Nigerian player to clinch the title of the best goalkeeper in the French D1 Arkema (women’s league). The 23-year-old’s outstanding performance throughout the season, particularly her prowess in saving penalties, has solidified her reputation as one of the top goalkeepers globally.
Chiamaka Nnadozie faced tough competition from Christiane Endler of Olympic Lyon and Katarzyna Kiedrzynek from Paris SG but emerged victorious to secure the prestigious individual award. Pierre Ferracci, the president of Nnadozie’s club, Paris FC, expressed his delight, emphasizing her exceptional contributions, especially during the Champions League matches.
Nnadozie’s exceptional penalty-saving skills stood out this season, with the Nigerian international saving an impressive total of seven penalties, the highest in Europe. Despite Paris FC’s current position at third place in the league standings, trailing behind local rivals Paris Saint-Germain and league leaders Lyon, Nnadozie’s individual success has garnered attention and admiration.
In response to her achievement, Nnadozie expressed her gratitude on social media platform X, thanking everyone who supported her journey, including her coaches, teammates, family, and Nigerian fans. She also acknowledged the role of divine intervention in her success.
This accolade adds to Nnadozie’s growing list of achievements, as she was previously awarded the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year in 2023. With her stellar performance in the French women’s league, Nnadozie continues to make strides and inspire aspiring goalkeepers across Africa and beyond.
