Delta State Police Urges Parents to Enforce Ban on Fireworks Ahead of Festive Season
Delta State Police Commissioner CP Olufemi Abaniwonda has issued a stern reminder to parents and guardians regarding the ongoing prohibition of pyrotechnics, including fireworks and firecrackers commonly referred to as ‘knock-out’ and ‘banger.’
This warning was shared in a press release on Thursday by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.
In his statement, Commissioner Abaniwonda emphasized, “In an effort to ensure a safe and peaceful holiday season, we want to reiterate that the ban on the use of fireworks remains firmly in place. Our command will rigorously enforce this prohibition, targeting the use, sale, and display of all forms of pyrotechnics.”
The commissioner explained that this measure is part of the police’s continuous initiative to prevent crime, as past experiences show that individuals with criminal intentions often exploit such festivities to threaten the safety of residents.
He urged parents and guardians to educate their children about the dangers associated with these items, stressing that retailers must cease the display and sale of fireworks. Those who fail to comply with these regulations will face arrest and prosecution.
To ensure adherence, CP Abaniwonda has instructed area commanders, divisional police officers, and tactical unit leaders to closely monitor their jurisdictions for any violations.
Additionally, he expressed gratitude for the cooperation of the community in maintaining this ban and encouraged citizens to report any incidents involving the use or sale of fireworks to the nearest police station.
