Dr. Chike Akunyili, husband to late DG of NAFDAC Dora Akunyili, has been reportedly killed by gunmen in Anambra state, according to an eyewitness.
Dr. Akunyili was on his way from Anambra to Enugu when his vehicle was ambushed by unknown gunmen who opened fire on him at Umuoji Community, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State on Tuesday evening, according to local media.
A video of the incident has emerged online on Facebook. In the video, Dr. Akunyili is seen struggling in the pool of his blood with a bullet hole in his face.
Before his death, Dr Chike operated the St Leo Hospital, one of the biggest hospitals in Enugu state.
He graduated with first class and lived his life as practicing medical expert in Nigeria.
Dr Chike Akunyilli was the husband to late Dora Akunyili, the former Director General of National Agency for Food & Drug Administration (NAFDAC) and one time minister of information under the Goodluck Jonathan administration.
