Port harcourt, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the country will soon reap the benefits of the economic reforms introduced by his administration, despite the initial pains and challenges. The President made this statement at the opening of the 2024 Annual National Management Conference of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Tinubu, who was represented by the Head of Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, emphasized that the economic reforms were aimed at stabilizing the weak economy he inherited. He acknowledged that the decisions had been met with some resistance, but expressed confidence that the nation’s economy and citizens would soon start reaping the benefits of all the sacrifices.

The President commended the NIM for its commitment to excellence in management practices, stating that good management was crucial for unlocking the country’s full potential. He also highlighted the importance of addressing economic and security challenges, emphasizing that these two pillars are intrinsically linked.

Tinubu noted that Nigeria faces a myriad of security challenges, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and communal clashes, which require a multifaceted approach to tackle. He stressed that addressing the root causes of insecurity, such as poverty, unemployment, and inadequate education, is essential to ensuring lasting peace.

The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, who was represented by his Deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, described the conference theme as timely and apt at a time when Nigeria needs solutions to its economic and security challenges. He emphasized the need for collective action to address these challenges, citing resource allocation, youth unemployment, regional disparities, and corruption as contending issues.

The President and Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Management, Christiana Atako, emphasized the critical need for collective action to address Nigeria’s economic and security challenges. She highlighted the need for prioritizing security, economic reforms, and sustainable development to ensure a brighter future for citizens.
