The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Timipre Sylva wanted over allegations that he diverted more than $14.8 million intended for an oil refinery project.
In a notice released on Monday, the EFCC said Sylva is being sought in connection with suspected conspiracy and the unlawful conversion of funds provided by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) to Atlantic International Refinery and Petrochemical Limited. The money was meant to support the construction of a refinery.
A Lagos State High Court issued a warrant for his arrest on November 6, according to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale.
“The public is hereby notified that TIMIPRE SYLVA… is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in an alleged case of Conspiracy and Dishonest Conversion of $14,859,257,” the statement said.
The agency has asked anyone with information on Sylva’s location to contact any EFCC office across the country or reach the commission through its official phone line or email address. Sylva, 61, is from Brass Local Government Area in Bayelsa State.
