In a coordinated effort to combat internet fraud, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 127 suspected fraudsters in Ondo State. The operation, which took place on Saturday, June 8, 2024, targeted a so-called “Yahoo Party” held at two nightclubs in Akure, the state capital.
According to sources, the party was initially planned for Wednesday, June 5, but was postponed to Saturday in an attempt to evade the EFCC’s surveillance. However, the commission’s operatives were able to track down the suspects and conducted a sting operation at the simultaneous parties held at Signature and Abah Clubs.
The suspects have provided valuable information to investigators, and a range of items were recovered from them, including ten luxury cars, mobile phones, laptops, a motorcycle, and wristwatches. Additionally, investigators seized numerous documents that may be used as evidence in the ongoing probe.
The EFCC has vowed to take the suspects to court as soon as investigations are concluded. The raid is part of the commission’s ongoing efforts to combat internet fraud, which has become a growing concern in the country.
The EFCC has made significant strides in recent times in combating internet fraud, also known as “Yahoo Yahoo.” This latest operation is seen as a major success in the fight against this type of criminal activity.
