Nigeria Mourns the Passing of Former FCT Minister Jeremiah Useni, Remembered for Decades of Military, Political, and Community Service

Jeremiah Useni, a retired army officer and former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has passed away at the age of 82. Useni died on Thursday following a prolonged illness.

The tragic news was confirmed by Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang in a statement issued through his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere. Governor Mutfwang described Useni’s death as a profound loss to his family, Plateau State, and Nigeria at large.

A Life of Exemplary Leadership

Governor Mutfwang praised the late elder statesman’s unwavering commitment to service, particularly in promoting peace and security across Northern Nigeria and Plateau State.

“The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, deeply regrets to announce to the citizens of Plateau State and all patriotic Nigerians the passing of the former minister,”

the statement read.

Useni’s illustrious career spanned decades, including roles as Minister of Transport, Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, and FCT Minister. After retiring from the military, he ventured into politics, serving as Deputy Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). In 2015, he was elected Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Tributes to a Statesman

Governor Mutfwang highlighted Useni’s legacy of selfless service, compassion, and dedication to the welfare of others.

“His contributions to the military, politics, and his community will remain a source of inspiration to all who knew him,”

the Governor stated.

“On behalf of my family, the government, and the peace-loving people of Plateau State, I offer my deepest sympathies. May God grant us all strength to bear this irreplaceable loss,”

the statement concluded.

Useni’s life was marked by service to his nation, from his military career to his political achievements. He will be remembered for his dedication to peace, security, and the well-being of those he served.

Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced as the nation mourns the passing of a true patriot.
