Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp may have officially enlisted Nigeria as one of the countries illegible for monetization. Many users have posted screenshots to prove that Facebook is now monetizing Nigerians.
Meta earlier announced that it would enlist Nigeria in June, 2024, during a meeting with the Nigerian president earlier in the year. In a visit by Meta’s president of Global Affairs, Sir Nick Clegg, to Nigeria, leading a delegation that visited President Bola Tinubu, Facebook made the revelations that Facebook would monetize Nigerian creators.
The news made many creators in the country very expectant. In early June, many Nigerians began trying to monetize on Facebook but could not. However, the social media giant may have now officially allowed Nigerian creators access to its monetization features.
Although, Nigeria is yet to appear on the Facebook website where the list of countries that are eligible for in-stream ads appear, many users in Nigeria now have their country of residence eligibility ticked. Some have been able to apply for monetization and have successfully filled out their payout details.
This is not the first time that some Nigerians have had their country of residence eligibility option ticked on the Meta platforms. Early in June, 2024, a similar trend appeared online with some users posting screenshots of ticked eligibility options. It turned out their could not successfully apply for monetization afterwards.
However, this time, many have confirmed that they have successfully applied for monetization from their locations in Nigeria.
