The First Lady expressed her condolences to the affected families and prayed for their speedy recovery.
In a show of compassion and solidarity, the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has donated a sum of N500 million to persons affected by the devastating flood disaster in Maiduguri, Borno State. The donation was made during a sympathy visit to the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, on Wednesday.
Mrs. Tinubu was represented by Nana Kashim Shettima, Wife of the Vice President, who presented the cheque to the governor. The First Lady expressed her condolences to the affected families and prayed for their speedy recovery. She also commended the state government for its tireless efforts to alleviate the suffering of the people.
The First Lady is also the Chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), a program aimed at empowering women and youth in the state. She assured that the RHI would continue to support vulnerable groups in the state.
The visit was attended by wives of some state governors, ministers, and female members of the National Assembly. In his response, Governor Zulum lauded the gesture, saying that the RHI program has empowered many women and vulnerable individuals in the state.
It is worth noting that President Tinubu had also visited Maiduguri on Monday to show his solidarity with the people of the state over the disaster. The President’s visit and Mrs. Tinubu’s donation are a testament to the government’s commitment to providing support to those affected by natural disasters.
