Tragedy Strikes Jattu Market, Edo State on July 8th, 2024
A devastating storm swept through the popular Jattu Market in Edo State, claiming the lives of four people and injuring several others. The tragedy occurred when four large trees, weakened by heavy rainfall, toppled onto marketgoers seeking shelter.
Etsako West Local Government Chairman, Mr. Marvellous Zibiri, confirmed the fatalities and ongoing rescue efforts. “It was a terrible scene,” he said. “The trees came down at once, and many people were caught under them.”Rescue workers are still searching for potential victims beneath the fallen trees. The injured are receiving medical attention at local hospitals.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of the weather. The Nigerian Meteorological Agency predicted thunderstorm and rain from Monday to Wednesday across the country and had issued a warning, urging citizens to take precautions. The Jattu Market community is reeling from the tragedy, and condolences have poured in for the families of those lost.
