Four-storey building collapses in Lagos

On Thursday, a four-storey building collapsed in Lagos Island, trapping an unspecified number of people beneath the rubble. The incident occurred at Iga Iduganran, in close proximity to the Oba of Lagos’ palace.

Gbenga Omotosho, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, confirmed the collapse on his X account. Omotosho reported that eight individuals have been rescued so far. “The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency officials have rescued eight people from the rubble and are working to retrieve two more individuals still trapped,” he stated. The building had previously been marked for evacuation by the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA).

This disaster follows closely on the heels of another tragic event covered by Report Afrique less than a week ago, where an 11-year-old girl and three other individuals lost their lives when a mosque collapsed after being struck by an excavator in the Papa Ajao area of Lagos State.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho made an updated post on his X handle stating that a total of 10 individuals we affected in the collapse and that nine of the affected persons were rushed to Iga Iduganran primary health centre.
