FRSC Launches Investigation into Violent Incident Between Officer and Passenger
A video circulating on social media has sparked outrage over a violent altercation between a passenger and a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer on August 23, 2024, along the Asaba-Ogwashi-Ukwu route.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred when a Toyota Sienna bus was stopped for violating traffic regulations. The vehicle was allegedly operating without a speed-limiting device, which warrants vehicle impoundment. However, things took a turn when a female passenger aggressively grabbed the steering wheel, preventing the officer from following standard procedures for vehicle impoundment.
The FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, expressed concern and disappointment over the incident, which has generated widespread public outcry. In a statement, Mohammed directed the Sector Commander in charge of the area to submit a comprehensive report within 48 hours.
The statement emphasized the seriousness of the passenger’s reckless actions and assured the public that if the staff involved is found guilty of any misconduct, disciplinary measures will follow in line with the Corps’ zero-tolerance policy for unprofessional behaviour.
The FRSC has also taken steps to investigate the incident and ensure that those responsible are held accountable. The agency has pledged to maintain transparency and keep the public informed throughout the investigation.
As the investigation unfolds, many have taken to social media to express their outrage over the incident, calling for greater accountability and professionalism from law enforcement agencies.
