The faction, aligned with Wike, was accused of defecting from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Governor Fubara and his supporters argued that such a defection should have led to their removal from the Assembly, but the Supreme Court ruled in favor of their reinstatement.

In a major financial blow to Rivers State, the court also directed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to withhold the state’s federal allocations until the 2024 budget is properly presented to the Assembly.

This ruling adds another layer to the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, further straining the relationship between Wike and Fubara.
