Fuel Scarcity in Nigeria Set to Ease Soon, Says IPMAN
Chinedu noted additional factors contributing to the fuel Scarcity, including issues with documentation and logistics.

Abuja, Nigeria – Mr. Ukadike Chinedu, the Publicity Secretary for the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), has announced that the ongoing fuel scarcity in the country is expected to be resolved shortly. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, Chinedu attributed the current fuel shortage primarily to disruptions in the supply chain.

“The supply chain relies heavily on the importation of petroleum products. However, the Federal Government has shifted its strategy, opting to source from Dangote instead of importing,” he explained. “As a result, Dangote is consistently providing these products, along with other crude oil derivatives.”

Chinedu noted additional factors contributing to the fuel shortage, including issues with documentation and logistics. He highlighted that Dangote has already dispatched 300 trucks and has been supplying the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) with necessary products.

To optimize the supply process, Chinedu revealed plans to utilize vessels for delivering fuel to coastal regions, which would minimize the reliance on trucks. “This approach will reduce road accidents, shorten travel distances, and potentially lower fuel prices,” he said. “We are in the process of finalizing arrangements for vessel deliveries to ease truck congestion on the roads.”

Chinedu expressed confidence that the supply chain concerns would be addressed soon. He confirmed that NNPCL has resumed its supply operations and that major marketers are purchasing products, while independent marketers work on finalizing agreements with Dangote.

He emphasized the importance of allowing independent marketers direct access to Dangote’s products to eliminate middlemen from the distribution process. “IPMAN will no longer depend on competitors for our supplies,” he asserted.

Additionally, Chinedu announced the launch of the new IPMAN website, Ipman.ng.com, which will facilitate online payments and streamline product acquisition for marketers. He believes this move will position IPMAN prominently within the sector.

Chinedu also shared positive news regarding financial support from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), which has pledged to disburse N10 billion to marketers as part of outstanding claims through the Petroleum Equalisation Fund (PEF). He expressed optimism that this funding would soon reach the respective marketers.

“We have faith in the NMDPRA’s authority and have been promised a bulk purchase agreement with Dangote for our members,” he added. Chinedu concluded by stating that once all agreements are finalized, fuel products will be readily available throughout the nation.
