President Tinubu’s horse retains 1st place at Bida horse racing tournament

In a thrilling display of speed and endurance, President Bola Tinubu’s horse, “Renewed Hope,” has retained its title as the fastest horse in Africa by securing first place in the 2024 edition of the horse racing tournament held in Bida. This victory marks a continuation of the horse’s dominance, having won the title in 2022 and 2023 as well.

President Tinubu now stands as the defending champion of the tournament, organized by the Horse Racing Federation of Nigeria. Competitors from Nigeria and five other African nations—Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali—participated in the event.

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, extended his congratulations to President Tinubu and commended the efforts of Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, and the National Coordinator of the Horse Racing Federation for their support in maintaining the annual event’s success.

The Emir of Bida and Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, emphasized the importance of horse racing in preserving cultural heritage. He noted that the event not only showcases traditional practices but also provides a platform for various cultural activities. He urged residents to leverage the economic benefits that come with such events, highlighting the unity and socio-economic development they foster.

Etsu Nupe also mentioned that horse racing is a significant cultural event gaining popularity within the emirate. He expressed his commitment to ensuring the tradition continues, citing the race as an essential part of their cultural heritage. He also announced that the next edition of the race will be held in Kaduna on June 26.

Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha-Bida, the coordinator of the National Horse Racing Federation of Nigeria, revealed plans to expand the competition across the country. The event was part of the celebrations for Tinubu’s first anniversary in office, aptly themed ‘Renewed Hope’. Mustapha-Bida highlighted Nigeria’s leadership in African horse racing and expressed pride in hosting the event, which included participants from Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali.

In addition to the races, significant prizes were awarded. Six Toyota vehicles were presented to winners in various categories, with cash prizes of N700,000 for second place, N500,000 for third, and N300,000 for fourth.

Renewed Hope is also slated to defend her championship in upcoming races in Kaduna and Kano, scheduled for June and July.
