NEC Opens 2027 Ticket to All, Accuses Peter Obi and Alex Otti of Party Division
The Labour Party, led by Julius Abure, has revoked the automatic presidential ticket previously reserved for Peter Gregory Obi in the 2027 elections. The party has also withdrawn the automatic second-term ticket for Abia State Governor, Alex Otti.
Following the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Abuja, Abure announced that the 2027 presidential ticket will now be open to all party members.
“NEC reviewed its earlier decision to reserve the Presidential and Governorship tickets for Peter Gregory Obi and Alex Otti, respectively. Consequently, all party tickets, from the Presidency to the House of Assemblies, are now open to all qualified Nigerians,” Abure said during a press briefing.
The Labour Party also criticized a recent stakeholders’ meeting in Abia State, organized by Governor Otti, stating it was illegal and not in line with the party’s constitution. Abure added that the Abia governor does not have the authority to convene such meetings.
“We are at a critical moment in the life of our party,” Abure emphasized, accusing Obi and Otti of sowing division by attempting to install a new leadership without NEC’s approval.
