Machina Emirate: The Mysterious City In Yobe Where Humans And Snakes Share Blood Ties
In Machina Emirate, ancient legends blur the line between humans and serpents, creating a bond of royalty and reverence

In most cultures, the relationship between humans and snakes is marked by fear and mistrust. However, in Machina Emirate, located in the remote northeastern part of Yobe State, Nigeria, the story is remarkably different. Here, snakes are revered as brothers and even regarded as royalty, thanks to an ancient legend of a queen who gave birth to twins — one human and the other a snake.

The Legend of the Twin Birth

According to the Emir of Machina, His Royal Highness Dr. Bashir Albishir Bukar (OON), this extraordinary tale dates back to the emirate’s early history. A queen in the palace is said to have given birth to twin sons — one a human, the other a serpent. Unable to remain with his human family, the snake twin retreated to the rocks behind the palace, where it began a lineage that still thrives today.

The descendants of this mythical snake twin are believed to exist as royalty in their own kingdom, mirroring the human royal family in status and privilege.

A Bond That Defies Nature

“Since then, their lineage has continued, just like human beings. I am the 77th Mai Machinama, so there must be one snake that has attained the same position in their kingdom,”

the Emir revealed.

This shared ancestry has created a unique bond between humans and serpents in Machina. Unlike in other parts of the world, snakes in Machina do not harm people, nor are they feared. They are instead seen as relatives and even pay symbolic homage to the Mai Machinama Palace, their ancestral home.

Machina: A Remote Cultural Gem

Located roughly 300 kilometers north of Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, Machina Emirate is renowned for its rich cultural heritage and intriguing history. The story of the snake twins has been passed down through generations, solidifying the emirate’s mystical reputation.

Locals believe the royal bloodline continues among the serpents, with snake kings, queens, and princesses holding equal status to their human counterparts. This coexistence highlights Machina’s unique cultural and spiritual identity, making it a place of wonder and fascination.

In a world where humans and snakes rarely coexist peacefully, Machina stands out as an exceptional example of harmony rooted in myth and tradition. The city’s rich history and cultural uniqueness continue to draw interest, offering a glimpse into a world where legends come alive.
