Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, is Dead

Yoruba’s foremost traditional head, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, the Alaafin of Oyo is dead. He was 83 years old.

The Alaafin is regarded as the Grand Custodian of Yoruba Culture and Tradition and the Emperor of Yorubas. It is also a very influential first class traditional institution in Nigeria.

He reportedly died in the late hours of Friday April 22,2022 at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti.

His remain has been brought to Oyo and traditional rites and customary processes has begun.

In 2021, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III celebrated his 50th year on the throne.

The Alaafin Adeyemi, was the 45th Alaafin, third from the Alowodu ruling house and was on the thrown for 52 years before his death.
